History
The Knightsbridge Theatre comprises dedicated, talented individuals sharing a deep, undying respect for the performing arts. We explore classical and contemporary plays, musicals, and experimental pieces, encouraging an environment of growth and exploration. By embracing the complexity and beauty of the human condition, we hope to entertain and inspire change in ourselves and the world around us.
The Knightsbridge Theatre has been producing some of the best theatre literature has to offer since 1991. After producing numerous critically acclaimed Shakespearian plays at various venues in the Los Angeles area, Knightsbridge founder Joseph Paul Stachura discovered a jewel of a location in Old Town Pasadena. Predicting the future explosion of nightlife in the area, Stachura set about building his theatre from the ground up in the basement of the historic 1906 Braley Building. Financing the renovations himself, Stachura opened the doors of the Knightsbridge Theatre – Pasadena on June 18th, 1993, running three plays simultaneously beginning with Shakespeare’s As You Like It, Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor, and Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot. All three productions were successful and the Knightsbridge was well on it’s way to creating what is now known as one of the strongest theatre companies in the United States.
In 2000, the Knightsbridge Theatre found a second home in Silverlake, Los Angeles. Stachura renovated an old 1920’s silent movie house (formally the home of The Colony Theatre) on Riverside Drive, offering the company a larger, more adaptable space in which to develop its ever-growing ensemble of actors, directors, writers, and technical staff. To date, the Knightsbridge has produced over 250 plays and has been the seed for many other theatre companies in the United States, continuing to support and encourage the growth of live theatre.
Over the next twenty years the Knightsbridge continued to grow, earning hundreds of awards, from the Pasadena Weekly’s Best Theatre of the Year to the coveted 'Pasadena Gold Crown Award', to an Honorary Award bestowed by the United States Congress and Adam Schiff.
